Why do Collaborative Projects?
In this extremely competitive landscape of Data, it is increasingly difficult to stand out from the crowd of others working in this field. Breaking into the field as well as excelling in it requires dedication, hard work and countless hours of learning. But this learning is only as effective as your application of the newly found knowledge.
Collaborative Projects not only allow you to build a portfolio of projects where you can show your talent and apply skills you have learned from courses, but offer you the opportunity to work with other data professionals, brainstorm ideas, network with people and get a taste of what it is like building a project in a real-life scenario.
Where can you find these projects?
All collaborative projects which take place on the SDS platform can be found in our community GitHub.

Core Values of Collab Projects:
These projects are designed to bring value to all people involved. Each project is centered around these core values:
1. Collaboration: Having teammates learn to work together on solving a problem, communicating with each other about their own ideas and ways of implementing a solution.
2. Learning: Always having something to learn whether it is a technical skill like a new technology, new tool, new modeling technique, new concepts or soft skill such as learning how to communicate with others, presentation skills, leadership skills, project planning, etc.
3. End-User Consideration: Whether itās constructing a home, crafting a chair, designing a pencil, or developing a machine learning model, the true measure of success lies in its utilization. The project built should in some way be usable by others like an API for others to access your models or a web app for people to use.
How to Apply to Collab Projects:
Watch out for announcements on the #Collaborative Projects space where you can find all projects. Comment your interest in the post for project member applications. You will receive a DM from the Head of Collab Projects informing you of the next steps.
Members are selected randomly to ensure fairness in our selection procedure. In the event that you are not selected for a project you applied for, rest assured that this is not the end of the opportunity. You will be placed on our waitlist, ensuring that you receive priority for the subsequent projects you apply for.
How to Start Your Own Collab Projects:
